The extreme side of laziness would be letting your family and those around you down because you aren't willing to do anything to provide for them.
The extreme side of being a workaholic is when you become driven by envy, greed, and a constant desire to stay ahead of everyone else.
And I saw that all toil and all achievement springs from one person's envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Fools fold their hands
and ruin themselves.
Better one handful of tranquility
than two handfuls of toil
and chasing after the wind.
(Ecclesiastes 4:4-6)
What exactly are we supposed to do? How are we supposed to find moderation in that?
The answer is to work hard but with moderation. Take time to enjoy the other gifts God has given and realize that it is God who gives out the assignments and rewards, not us.
I needed to hear that today..in this season of pandemic, I've worked harder than ever, longer hours than ever, and haven't done a good job at shutting off my work brain. That is one of the many challenges about being a business owner. But at the same time, God has blessed me in many other ways. Everything around me is a gift from God. From the people around me, to the things I have, to the roof over my head.
The best way to find moderation in what we do is to enjoy the gifts God has given you. I can promise you that he has given you more than one gift if some of you are thinking you only have one. It's your job to find it.
God is the one who gives out the assignments and rewards, not us. If you take away one thing from this post I hope it is that. We can win awards at work, from sports, or even games, but God gives the ultimate reward. Your grand prize trophy won't last you forever. The reward that God has given you is the reward that we should be continuing to strive after every, single, day.
Fools fold their hands
and ruin themselves.
Better one handful of tranquility
than two handfuls of toil
and chasing after the wind.
