Do you ever not feel satisfied? Feet like there is more out there? Aren't satisfied by the things of this earth? Want more? Question why you're really here or what is your purpose?
I used to wrestle with those thoughts...I lived a good life but always felt like there was more out there for me. I felt like there was a greater purpose and reason for living. And no, I am not talking about how I think I should've played college basketball at a bigger school. The feeling I am talking about was a feeling in my heart that I really can't put into words.
It was a feeling in my heart that really longed for something eternal. I just couldn't figure out why I felt that way. I felt as if no matter what I was experiencing, my heart was still drawn to eternity. Sometimes I didn't want to believe that my heart wasn't satisfied by the life I was living because it was really good! I thought there was no way...There is no way that my heart actually longs for eternity like the Bible says. But the more and more I felt it, the more and more I believed it and everything started to make sense.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is this: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Revelation 3:11)
God has "set eternity in the human heart." this means that we can never be completely satisfied with earthy pleasures and pursuits. Because we are created in God's image, we have Christ, we have eternal value, and nothing but the eternal God can truly satisfy us. God has build in a restless earning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in his perfect rule.
He has set eternity in the human heart. That was the missing link I needed. I felt that way all those years because God meant for that to happen. Eternity is set in all of our hearts. That is why we long for something greater than what this world has to offer. I believe that is why we never feel completely satisfied by success here on earth.
The missing link to the way you might be feeling is that right there. Because really...how often do you come to the realization that the thing you're really missing out on is eternity in your heart?
After the first time I read it, everything that made sense. Our hearts long for a satisfaction that only God can provide. If we are never aware of it, we will never get to experience it.
So my one thing for you today is to understand that the thing you're missing out on is the eternity that God has set in your heart.
I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.
