This evening’s post is going to be very brief. I just want to encourage you all to get in the spirit of being thankful. Tomorrow is thanksgiving and there are so many things to be thankful for. I encourage you to think of some of those things and really thank God for all of the things you are thankful for.
Psalm 9:1: I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
I hope and pray that you all have such an amazing thanksgiving. I can’t wait to share a pretty cool post with you tomorrow.

I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.

"Walk"
Did you know that Peter once healed a man in the bible who was lame? He didn't make the man cool because he wasn't, he healed a man who was unable to walk. How cool is that? A human performed a miracle. I hope that you never think that you cannot do anything significant because you can.
Acts 3:6-10: Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
So where am I going with this? There are so many instances in life where we want to be able to give someone something to help them out. Most of the time, we don't have the material goods to give them. We do have one thing though and that one thing is never changing. We have the gift of the Holy Spirit inside of us, the gift of God. Peter told the man that he didn't have anything to give him, but he was going to give him what he had and that was Jesus Christ. Peter was bold and courageous and the man was healed because of Jesus Christ. We can do the same thing to people every day. Share Jesus with someone and their life can change.
I especially like the end of the verse. "Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate and they were filled with wonder and amazement. How perfect of an illustration? We share Jesus with someone, we take that person up with us, walk with them, encourage them, love them, pray for them, and instantly their life is changed. That person now begins to walk on a new and exciting journey, walking and jumping, and praising God. People will notice a change and recognize that there is something different about that person.
Share Jesus, love someone, change their life forever.
How should our walk be? I think it should be courageous.
Acts 4:13: When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
I want to encourage you and challenge you with that verse. The people noticed that Peter and John had courage, they could notice that when they were teaching. They could tell that they were unschooled and ordinary men, because of that the people were astonished and took note that they had been with Jesus. Seriously though, think about it, when you are witnessing someone speak or teach about certain topics do you want that person to be super educated and ordinary? In a way yes, because you want it to be educational. But when you look at the impact, you will be impacted by someone who had courage. I hope you could understand the point I was just trying to make, it was really tough for me to word it. What I am trying to say is that you can tell a difference between someone who lives a life of courage vs. someone who lives based on being ordinary. As followers of Jesus Christ we are extra-ordinary!
I challenge you and encourage you to share your faith, it will change someones life. The courage you live your life with will be noticed and people will be astonished by it. It may not seem like it all the time, but a life lived with courage is truly astonishing.

Time isn't in your hands
In our daily lives everything revolves around time. Especially with our culture here in the United States. It seems like our lives only run on schedules-think about it-if you are a student you have a set time everyday for classes and homework, if you are an athlete you have a set time for all of your practices and workouts along with classes and homework, if you have a full-time job you have a set time for hours that you work every single day. I could go on and on with examples. Bottom line, our lives seem to run on a strict schedule every single day.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but thinking that all the time is yours can be.
Acts 1:7-8: He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...
I think that is a verse that we all needed to hear tonight. We may be on a tight and busy schedule everyday, but why and how does that happen. It happens because it is God's plan for us. I believe that what we need to remember is that God gives us time but we decide what we do with it. I hope that makes sense.
I really enjoyed the part of the verse about the date as well. I think a lot of times we set unrealistic goals, or we unrealistically expect things to happen in our lives at certain times. (Unrealistic goals are not bad at all) For instance, you are struggling in a class and you have a test coming up. You dedicate all the extra time you have to studying and preparing for this test because you think that you are going to kill it and finally get your grade up. What happens a lot of the time? You take the test, get it back and see that you did not do a very good job on it. See what happened was that you expected something to happen because of the effort you put in. I am not saying that hard work doesn't pay off because it certainly does. In all areas of life. What I am saying is that maybe it just wasn't God's time. You thought that you were going to raise your grade based on your time and you thought it was going to happen on a certain day based on what you thought.
That example is perfect for our lives. The times and dates that have been set for us are only known by the Father.
I think another prime example would be the "ring by spring," belief at Christian colleges. Like Bethel. We get that idea engraved in our mind by so many people. We get to thinking why haven't I found the one yet? I thought that maybe I would have found the one by now but I haven't. It's not something that is done in your power but in God's. Maybe the time hasn't happened yet where God has placed that special person in your life and maybe it has. I could go on and on about this but that would be a good topic for another post. Finding the one is what you do after you have found who YOU are in Christ. If you haven't found your identity in Christ then you probably shouldn't be searching for an identity or a relationship with someone else. The one will come when the Father believes the time is right and that you are ready. Rely on what God does not what you do. Like I said before, a lot of this stuff from this last example will definitely be in another post at some point. I figured that it would be a great example showing that time isn't really ours...it is God's and what we do with it is ours.
Next time you think that time is yours, remember that only the Father knows the times and dates that are set for you.

Reckless Love
Do you ever think to yourself or wander why God-the creator of everything-loves you so much. We are all sinners and we are nowhere near perfect and God still loves us.
I have been reading through Job and it has been a very interesting book to go through. I have learned a lot, but something in Job really stuck out to me today. It stars in chapter 38 and the Lord is speaking to Job out of the storm and he said:
(brace yourself, I am about to share a lot of scripture)
Job 38: Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—
7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels[a] shouted for joy?
Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!

8 “Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,
9 when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10 when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;
here is where your proud waves halt’?
when it burst forth from the womb,
9 when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10 when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;

12 “Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,
13 that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it?
14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;
its features stand out like those of a garment.
15 The wicked are denied their light,
and their upraised arm is broken.

16 “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea
or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Have the gates of death been shown to you?
Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?
18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all this.
or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Have the gates of death been shown to you?
Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?
18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all this.
19 “What is the way to the abode of light?
And where does darkness reside?
20 Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?
21 Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!
And where does darkness reside?
20 Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?
21 Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!
22 “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of the hail,
23 which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?
24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,
or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,
26 to water a land where no one lives,
an uninhabited desert,
27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?
28 Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
30 when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?
or seen the storehouses of the hail,
23 which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?
24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,
or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,
26 to water a land where no one lives,

Who fathers the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
30 when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?
34 “Can you raise your voice to the clouds
and cover yourself with a flood of water?
35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
36 Who gives the ibis wisdom[f]
or gives the rooster understanding?[g]
37 Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens
38 when the dust becomes hard
and the clods of earth stick together?
and cover yourself with a flood of water?
35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?
36 Who gives the ibis wisdom[f]
or gives the rooster understanding?[g]
37 Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens
38 when the dust becomes hard
and the clods of earth stick together?
39 “Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
and satisfy the hunger of the lions
40 when they crouch in their dens
or lie in wait in a thicket?
41 Who provides food for the raven
when its young cry out to God
and wander about for lack of food?
and satisfy the hunger of the lions
40 when they crouch in their dens
or lie in wait in a thicket?
41 Who provides food for the raven
when its young cry out to God
and wander about for lack of food?
I know that there are a ton of verses but really read through them. God is literally so powerful and so amazing. I encourage you to really rest in that and just praise God for all of the things he has done. A lot of those verses in Job 38 are things that we just forget to think about. We often get caught up in how we are supposed to live and forget about all of the details of the things that God has done. The man who did all of those things loves you!
I have been going to LifeWorks Church and every Sunday I feel like they play this song called "Reckless Love." I don't know if you have ever heard it before but I wanted to share some of the lyrics from it. When you can put two and two together, the man who did all of the things above in Job and the idea of that is the same person who loves you it is incredible! God is so good!! He recklessly loves you.
"Before I spoke a word
You were singing over me
You have been so, so
Good to me
Before I took a breath
You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so
Kind to me"
You were singing over me
You have been so, so
Good to me
Before I took a breath
You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so
Kind to me"
"Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it
I don't deserve it
Still You give yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God"
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it
I don't deserve it
Still You give yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God"
"When I was your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so
Good to me
When I felt no worth
You paid it all for me
You have been so, so
Kind to me"
You have been so, so
Good to me
When I felt no worth
You paid it all for me
You have been so, so
Kind to me"
"There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
No lie You won't tear down
Coming after me"
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
No lie You won't tear down
Coming after me"

What does your reflection look like?
Do you know what your reflection in the mirror looks like? I’m sure you immediately think... “yeah...duh.” Well I’m not talking about that reflection. I’m talking about a reflection that goes deeper than just seeing what you look like on the outside. My goal for you is that after reading this post that you can look into the mirror and truly see who you are. This requires some work on your part.
At a team meeting we had last night in our hotel in Wisconsin, our coach challenged us to do a little bit of a personal evaluation to see if we have grown since August. He talked about how most of the guys on the team have all become better basketball players since August which wasn’t the main goal. The main goal is if we are growing and becoming men of God and better people. It’s always super meaningful to hear your coach tell you that your personal spiritual growth is the most important goal. He challenged us to sit there is think about it. I challenge you to look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are living by and for the word of God.
James 1:22-24: Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in the mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Those verses are so powerful. That is why the word of God is so important. Honestly if you are not in the word I don’t know how you learn about Jesus and everything that has to do with Christiany. I encourage you to start digging into the word so you know how to live! You can still live a decent life without it, but you’re ultimately missing out on everything. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to miss out on living our lives for Christ. The greatest gift ever was given to us and that is all talked about in the word! Dive into it, live by it and you’ll be able to live a life where you can look at yourself in the mirror and truly know who you are and who you live for. It’s so powerful!
James 1:25: But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it-not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.
Look into the perfect law-the word-it gives us all freedom. Do what you read and what you learn in the Bible and you will be blessed when you do it!
So...I challenge you. Every time you look into the mirror, reflect on your spiritual growth and if you’re doing what the Bible teaches us and instructs is to do. I know you all look in the mirror a lot which is perfect. The more times you look into the mirror the more time you spend on reflection. It’s not easy, it’s tough because we live in a world that wants you to live for yourself and for yourself only. We all get caught up in it. If you look into the mirror and realize you haven’t been doing what the word says that’s okay! Pray about it.

Shine Brightly: By Rosemary Fisher
SHINE BRIGHTLY
I have been a youth leader in our church for 10 years. One
thing that I often said to my group of high school girls was “Shine
brightly”[in your schools and among your friends]. I reminded them of this
often because I wanted others to be able to see the evidence of Christ in their
lives, knowing what an impact they could have among their peers. Philippians 2:15 tells us that we “are to live
clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and
perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before men.”
But what does it mean to shine brightly before men? And how
do we do that? Paul, the author of Philippians, gives further directions. He
says, in Phil. 2:14-15a, “In everything you do, stay away from complaining and
arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you.”
Why is complaining and arguing bad? Well, inherently they
might not be; but for Christians, we are designed to represent Jesus Christ in
all we say and do. If our lives are characterized by worldly behavior, we look
no different than non-Christians. I personally
want my life to look different. I want
people to look at my life, and see the
evidence of Christ in my life. As Francis Chan says, “People ought to see
the transformation in our lives and respond by saying, “The Lord- He is God.” A
transformed life is an effective witness to the power of God’s Word (Life
Application Study Bible).
I once read a quote that said something to the extent of “A
Christian’s life should not make sense to an unbeliever.” So if you are a
Christian reading this, ask yourself that question. Does your life look
peculiar? Do your friends or co-workers think you do ‘strange’ things because
of your love for God. I’ll give a practical example of this. One thing that I
have really felt called to do is to go on international mission trips. I have
been to the Dominican Republic three times, and Puerto Rico once. Next summer,
my son Jack and I, are going to Africa. Because of these mission trips, I
typically use up all of my vacation time at work to get my time off, then
struggle to have enough time off for family vacations or personal time off. My
co-workers, in good fun, “tease” me for using my vacation time to “rough it” on
trips with cold showers, lack of drinking water and electricity, tarantulas, bug
bites, sleeping on hard floors, and risk of tropical diseases, among many other
hardships. Despite the fun and obvious bantering back and forth at work over
this, I do feel that God can use this in a way to “let His light shine”. The
joy that I come back with, and the stories of what our teams have done in His
name, no doubt leave an impact on those around me. So even though it might not
seem practical in the world’s eyes in what I’m doing with my time or money, in
God’s eyes, it may be the most valuable use of my resources. That is an example
on large scale. But break that down into daily things, either at school, or
work, or even at home. Do you have someone asking you to pray for them? Do it
right then and there. Does your conversation bring glory to God as you talk
with those around you? Does your choice in music, books or movies point to your
relationship with God by revealing your choices for entertainment? Does your
kindness to those around demonstrate that you have a source of love you’re
willing to share? I believe these are all little but mighty ways that you can “let
your light shine.”
One doesn’t have to look hard to find negativity,
complaining, fighting, selfishness, pride, greed, and I could go on listing
more evidence of our dark world. Now, more than ever, the world needs people
who are willing to be counter-cultural. Lights. Shining brightly! We need to be
in this world, but not of this world. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of
who we should try to imitate. Talk about being a light! John 21:25 says, “And I
suppose if all the other things Jesus did were written down, the whole world
could not contain the books.” The best way to know more about Him, is to read
the Bible. I pray that you will be inspired to shine brightly for Christ. The
world is watching. And looking for hope.
“We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we
won’t need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call
attention to their shining- they just shine.” D. L. Moody
