Train yourselves to be godly

I think that one thing in our faith that is overlooked or seen as a difficult task is being godly and training ourselves on a daily basis to be godly. I also think that we sometimes over look the importance of what is written in the Bible and how true is it.

1 Timothy 4:1-8: The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you point these tings out to the brother and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Here is a list of the thing that really stick out in those verses:

  • The Spirit says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits
  • some teachings come through hypocritical liars
  • everything God created is good
  • nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving
  • if you point these things out, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths and faith and of the good teaching
  • train yourself to be godly
My favorite verse from that passage is Timothy 4:8: "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." This verse is such a good reminder because sometimes it is easy to get caught up worrying only about physical training-like basketball for me-because it is has always been one of the most important things in my life. God is so good because I am now at the point in my faith that I know that life is such much bigger than basketball. Don't get me wrong, basketball is still one of the most important things in my life and when I play I give all the glory to God and I also know that I can use it as a platform to witness to others. I am at the point where I know that true fulfillment comes from God, and it comes from my daily time spent with him. Yeah, every single day is busy and full of some cool and fun things and I get to interact with some awesome people-but nobody-or anything of this world makes me feel more fulfilled than time spent with God. It's awesome knowing that the time spent training ourselves for godliness has so much value and holds promise for both the present life and the life to come. I encourage you to find time to experience the fulfillment that Christ longs for us to experience, for God's glory.

it's okay to not understand

I believe that one of the things that hold people back from having a relationship with Christ is the feeling that they for some reason think...
