Okay, so this whole idea of an upside down kingdom wasn't exactly mine. We just got done with a team bible study and that was one of the topics we talked about. We were told to read John 1-3 and we were going to discuss parts of those three chapters throughout our time together. One of the passages in those chapters is about how Jesus changed water into wine. That miracle is one of the most miraculous miracles that God performed. If you have never heard the story about how Jesus changed water into wine I am about to tell you.
It coms from John 2:1-12 and I will just type out all of those verses so I do not miss anything.
John 2:1-12: On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Woman, who do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water" ; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
So where does this upside down kingdom idea come into play? When you think of a king and his kingdom what do you think of? I think of a king being in charge over all his people and I think of royalty. I think of only the royalty and close family getting all of the benefits and perks. If this story happened in a normal kingdom, only the important people in the wedding would know that Jesus was turning water into wine. The royalty would know and he would've made it known that he performed such a miracle.
This miracle is like a upside down kingdom because only the servants that were closest to Jesus knew that he turned the water into wine. The servants were obedient to Jesus and listened to his every command. That is one of the things that really sticks out to me here. They were obedient and then he performed one of his greatest miracles. I believe that this foreshadows many things to come. It definitely foreshadows the day that Jesus will come back. When he comes back only the people who were close to him will go to heaven and be with him for eternity. The righteous, obedient, and the people who love one another to name a few. God loves you so much and I hope that you never forget that.
This whole idea of an upside kingdom is foreshadowing so many things to come.
You are loved!
I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.
