Time isn't in your hands

In our daily lives everything revolves around time. Especially with our culture here in the United States. It seems like our lives only run on schedules-think about it-if you are a student you have a set time everyday for classes and homework, if you are an athlete you have a set time for all of your practices and workouts along with classes and homework, if you have a full-time job you have a set time for hours that you work every single day. I could go on and on with examples. Bottom line, our lives seem to run on a strict schedule every single day.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but thinking that all the time is yours can be.

Acts 1:7-8: He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you...

I think that is a verse that we all needed to hear tonight. We may be on a tight and busy schedule everyday, but why and how does that happen. It happens because it is God's plan for us. I believe that what we need to remember is that God gives us time but we decide what we do with it. I hope that makes sense.

I really enjoyed the part of the verse about the date as well. I think a lot of times we set unrealistic goals, or we unrealistically expect things to happen in our lives at certain times. (Unrealistic goals are not bad at all) For instance, you are struggling in a class and you have a test coming up. You dedicate all the extra time you have to studying and preparing for this test because you think that you are going to kill it and finally get your grade up. What happens a lot of the time? You take the test, get it back and see that you did not do a very good job on it. See what happened was that you expected something to happen because of the effort you put in. I am not saying that hard work doesn't pay off because it certainly does. In all areas of life. What I am saying is that maybe it just wasn't God's time. You thought that you were going to raise your grade based on your time and you thought it was going to happen on a certain day based on what you thought.

That example is perfect for our lives. The times and dates that have been set for us are only known by the Father.

I think another prime example would be the "ring by spring," belief at Christian colleges. Like Bethel. We get that idea engraved in our mind by so many people. We get to thinking why haven't I found the one yet? I thought that maybe I would have found the one by now but I haven't. It's not something that is done in your power but in God's. Maybe the time hasn't happened yet where God has placed that special person in your life and maybe it has. I could go on and on about this but that would be a good topic for another post. Finding the one is what you do after you have found who YOU are in Christ. If you haven't found your identity in Christ then you probably shouldn't be searching for an identity or a relationship with someone else. The one will come when the Father believes the time is right and that you are ready. Rely on what God does not what you do. Like I said before, a lot of this stuff from this last example will definitely be in another post at some point. I figured that it would be a great example showing that time isn't really ours...it is God's and what we do with it is ours.

Next time you think that time is yours, remember that only the Father knows the times and dates that are set for you.

~ you are loved ~

it's okay to not understand

I believe that one of the things that hold people back from having a relationship with Christ is the feeling that they for some reason think...
