God's Plan
God's plan! I am not talking about the song by Drake our referencing it by any means. God's plan just happened to be the perfect title for this post. But...if you like that type of music you might have liked on the link! If you clicked on it because you thought I was going to talk about Drake and his song, I encourage you to please keep reading. I believe God's call for you and God's plan for you is pretty much the same thing.
My mom asked me this question the other day: Do you think that God's calling for you can change?
I had never been asked that so I told her, that I believed that it can change. Then I found out that I might have been wrong.
Romans 11:29: for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable.
Something that is irrevocable cannot be changed, reversed, or recovered...it's final.
Now I had never heard that verse before and know that I have it answers a lot of questions while creating many more. It's an encouraging knowing that the plan for you, once you figure out what it is, won't change. I said, once we figure it out, because we have free will. God has our lives prepared for us, but we get to make decisions along the way that lead to discovering what God's plan for us is.
I feel like a broken record but I have discovered this past year that I have a gift for encouraging people...it's what I love to do, and I would like to think that I do a decent job at it. Encouraging people is something that I never get tired of doing...in whatever way it may be.
We had our end of the year individual meetings today, and to conclude the meeting, my coaches asked me if I had any questions, so I asked them what I need to do next year to be the best that I can be. Many things were said, but my coach told me to continue to do what I do best. He told me that one of those things is encouraging people, and I need to continue to do it the best that I can because I might now know it, but it makes a difference.
I fully believe that God gifted me with that ability, and scripture tells me that I will always have that gift.
But when it comes to God's calling is when I have a couple of questions. I believe that God can call us to many different things. I know of somebody who was a pastor because he felt called to be pastor. He is now done being a pastor because he felt called to do smarting else. God called me to be at Bethel College but eventually God will have a new plan for me as soon as my time here is done.
Something that very select few know is that I feel called to write a book. It's a goal of mine. Once I accomplish it, what will God's call be after that?
One of my callings has been to play basketball and I have played my entire life. In a year from now, I will be called to do something else.
I hear people tell stories in church that they quit their jobs because they think that God is calling them to do something else.
My high school basketball coach just announced his retirement after 34 years of coaching at Archbold High School. Coaching at Archbold was definitely where God called him to be and he used his position to have a lasting impact on the growth of young men. Coach Krauss used his time to glorify God by using the many gifts that he gave him. God obviously has a new plan and calling for Coach Krauss and I am sure that he is excited to get it figured out.
So my question seems to be...If God's plan for us is irrevocable, then why do things change in our lives so much.
The answer might be right there in scripture and I missed its but I believe that God's plan for us is always for us to give all the glory to him and to further the kingdom of heaven the best we can until the day that He returns. We can do those things wherever we are at, God has a sense of humor so who knows what you will be doing. The overall plan is always the same thing.
It's like life on earth. King Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes that everything under the sun is meaningless. Our work, our labor, everything we do is meaningless unless it has an eternal purpose. If we don't have the vertical lifestyle where we have a living relationship with our Father in Heaven than we live a horizontal meaningless life.
I hope that this post was encouraging to you today, life is good my friends and I encourage to to trust in the Lord and his plans for you. He never changes and neither does the gifts He gifts you and the plan He has for you.
One more thing...
Humble Service in the Body if Christ
Romans 3:3-8: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If you gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;
if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
We are all one body, and we all have gifts. If you don't know what your gifts are yet, I encourage to keep praying about it and I pray that you find them too.
Once you figure out what your gift is, do it!!! God gifted you that way for a reason and for a purpose. Use it to glorify him.
I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.
