Every time I see that commercial it really hits me that we have so much power through those little devices that we call phones that we carry around and use literally all day. We have the ability to post whatever we want on social media. I bet this happens to you...you get on twitter and you'll see a 30 second video of a fight and then the tweet right below that you see a tweet about God. You have the power to post whatever you want.
With social media we also have the ability to reach thousands of people. I don't have thousands of followers on any app, but a couple of retweets can sky rocket the amount of people who see what you have to say. It's not even about retweets either. Hundreds of people see what you post. Hundreds of people will see it, but God will use it in whatever way he wants. Whoever he wants to see it will see it.
A lot of the time we get on social media and all we see is the good stuff. Instagram consists of vacation pictures, beach pictures all things that seem to be just perfect. It's tough for some people to see all of those things on the social media, because people compare their lives to the things that they see on Instagram. My mom asked this question over dinner during spring break two weeks ago: "Does seeing people's post on social media make you wish that you were somewhere else?" How would you answer that question. I know for me, It was a 100 percent no. I enjoy seeing how God has blessed other people's lives. I also know that what you see on social media most of the time is just the things that people want you to see. Say you see a beautiful picture a mutual friend posted while they were on vacation. The picture is beautiful and I am sure that is why they posted it, but the trip could be terrible? Social media allows people to hide the bad and show the good things.
I'm talking about all of this because I want to encourage you that when you post things are social media, use what you post to encourage other people. Don't post encouraging or spiritual things just to make your accounts look special. Post those kinds of things because you mean it. If your posts contain spiritual content, you better act on it. Again this is all coming back to the idea of being doers of the word of God. One of the hardest things for me is to see somebody post a bible verse and away from their phone screen their actions don't relate. The sad part is, it's something I see every day. If you are reading this and realize that you do that very thing, don't feel bad. Use this as encouragement. Maybe reading this post is what God wanted you to do today. Maybe it's time for a change.
I hope you enjoyed this post about the power that we have. I encourage you to use it. It's not for everyone though. Some people stay away from sharing their faith on social media and that is totally okay. If you don't share your faith on social media, encourage and uplift people instead. If you take one thing away from this post, I hope that you take away the fact that when you post about your faith and post uplifting content, you need to act that way to. Also, know that you have power. The power to change the world.
We have all the power in the world to affect people all over the world. Use it!
