I believe that I have learned a valuable lesson the past couple of weeks and that is to embrace love that others show you. I was put into situations where people around me showed a great deal of hospitality. I was meeting family members of important people in my life for the first time and I was overwhelmed by the love that I was showed and in my mind, I don't think I deserve to be treated like that.
In my mind was where I was wrong. We are called to love others just as Christ loved us and if we don't embrace that love we are showed what good does it do? We must accept the different ways that people show love to us because we all have a different love language and if we don't do that, we are turning down love.
I stayed at one of my roommates houses this past weekend for the first time and on Sunday, his family and some extended family all went to his grandparents for lunch and spent time together watching football and playing cards. I obviously wasn't part of the family but they made me feel like. Not only by their actions but also the things that were said to me. I was told at least 5 time that I was a part of the family.
When we are put into situations like that how are we acting. Shy? Afraid? Scared? Or do we embrace the love that is being showed. Normally I might shy away from it because of my personalty, but this past weekend I decided to embrace it and there was a certain feeling that I had that was just so refreshing. I was overjoyed with the love that was shown and fully felt God's love in my heart.
God puts people in our lives everyday to love us like he does. I encourage you and challenge you to be that person to others and to embrace the love that is shown to you. It's a win win every time.
Happiness isn't something that is scientifically verifiable. You can't measure it with a gauge or a number. Happiness isn't based on what you have or what you have compiled over your life time. Happiness is measured by your understanding of what makes others feel loved and cared for. Once you understand that you will become overjoyed by all of the small things.
My hope is that we can all learn to find joy in the small things. Find joy in the way that people show love to you. Find joy by loving others. Find joy in the simple and the complicated things. Joy and happiness can be found everywhere when we begin to look for it.
It's amazing how that works. Seek joy and you will find joy. Enjoy the small things and you will enjoy the big things. Embrace opportunities that are right in front of you. Don't shy away from anything. It's amazing what happens when you open your eyes to what is right in front of you.
This was a short post today and I hope it was applicable for you in your daily lives.
I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.
