I believe there are lots of ways that we are able to do things. But only one way allows us to truly do the things that we want to.
The answer to that question is keeping you eyes up...
Last Sunday in church our pastor was preaching and gave an example of this and I have not been able to get it out of my head all week.
Have you ever held a broom, and put the end on your fingers and tried to balance it? I hope you have at least tried it once, if not, I don't know what you were doing as a kid! Think about when you were trying to balance it. The only way was to keep your eyes focused on the top of the broom. Whenever you wold look at your hand or even the ground, the broom would fall over almost instantly.
Because you kept your eyes up, you were able to balance the broom.
The same goes for every day you open your eyes and get out of bed. The only way that we are going to ever be able to do the things that we want and be satisfied with is to have our eyes set on our heavenly Father.
You could go do this life and have major success in everything you do, but if you don't have a focus on God you'll never feel fulfilled. You might for a short time period, but never to the full extent. The pleasures we get from this life when we don't have our eyes and hearts set on God are meaningless.
How am I able? I like to think I live a pretty busy life. I am able because what I do is rooted in Christ. My thoughts, actions, and words. When I wake up every morning, I have to tell myself that I am not waking up for me to do what I need to do. I am waking up because God has a plan for my day. There are interactions that he knows are going to happen because God is all-knowing. My job when I wake up is to be obedient to what God wants for me. Do I do that everyday? Of course not. I am not even close to perfect and I mess up over and over again. Have I gotten it figured out? Absolutely. I've learned that time spent in the word, reflection time, devotionals, talking about the Jesus with others, praying, and having a good attitude is how I am able. All of those things I just listed require me to seek God first above all things. In other words, I have to keep my eyes up.
I am able to live the life that God desires me to live when I keep my eyes on him. With God, all things are possible.
