I am going to be honest with you, I am not good a tithing and giving money in church. I don't think I have ever given money. Setting aside some of my income someday for church is something that I really look forward to doing once I have a steady income.
I haven't really had a steady income yet, I am excited to get started with this.
Although I haven't been able to give something that has a monetary value, I have been able to give my time and energy.
For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. (2 Corinthians 8:9)
That verse really hits home for me. God would never want us to give the things that we don't have. Why would we ever be required to give things that we don't have?
One of the things my basketball coaches told me was that when you show up for practice today and you don't have 100% to give, we should give 100% of whatever percentage we are lacking. So if I was at about 70% I had to give 100% of my 70%.
I am sure that there are a lot of you out there who might relate to this. People my age don't have that much money right now, so we don't necessarily have to give that. There is always more to give.
Sacrificial giving must be responsible. We are called to give generously, but not to the extent where we have to rely on others to provide us with our basic needs. Are basic needs have to be met before we start giving more and more.
My challenge to you is to give your time. Give God your time on a Sunday and go to church. Give God your time every day of the week when you read your bible. Give God your time when you sit and pray. Give what you have and we all have time.
I write for one reason, and that is to encourage others, give perspective, and get people excited about their faith.
