People are like grass

Tonight's post will be much shorter than usual. I know you are all busy and probably don't have a ton of time to sit down and read this. Tonight I decided to start reading 1 Peter. Last night I finished Hebrews, so I was really anxious and excited to start a new book. I couldn't decide what book was going to be next, so I went to my bible app and saw that the verse of the day was from 1 Peter so I took that as God telling me that I should read 1 Peter next and the scripture I read in chapter 1 was something that I really needed to hear today.

1 Peter 1:24-25: For, "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever."

I think that every single day we get caught up in putting too much trust in other people. I think there is no problem in trusting other people, but sometimes we trust them too much. Say you tell one of your friends this awesome story that is so funny. You probably had a conversation beforehand telling your friend that you don't want them to tell anyone. What does that friend do most of the time? Tells more friends and the story spreads like wildfire. I know that I have a couple people in my life who I will trust with anything, but I also have a lot of other friends who I trust, but they fail me. It's a struggle sometimes figuring out who to trust. This verse reminded me that people are like grass...grass that withers away. All grass eventually withers away and dies-so why put your trust in something that isn't eternal?

The second part, which talks about their glory being like flowers is also true. Us humans have the ability to glorify ourselves in way to many ways. It is also easy for people to glorify other people for the wrong reasons. Sure, flowers look really pretty on the outside and they are pretty for a certain time of year, but what eventually happens, the beautiful flower petals fall to the ground. It is a never ending cycle. Beautiful flowers tend to attract people to them, but beautiful flowers are only temporary. Again, we are being drawn in by things that are of this world, things that are not eternal.

The word of the Lord endures forever. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Trust in him and put your faith in him. 1 Peter 1:7 says: These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

it's okay to not understand

I believe that one of the things that hold people back from having a relationship with Christ is the feeling that they for some reason think...
