What do you stand for?
“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
Seriously, take a look at it, evaluate yourself. Are there things in your life that you experience on a daily basis that you stand for?
Standing up is a way of life. Pay attention to opportunities where you can make a positive difference. Impact change. Be a hero every day. Find a need and fill it. You can do this in big ways and small ways.
Another way to figure out what it means for you to take a stand is to ask yourself, what am I known for? Are you known for loving others and showing compassion? Are you know for keeping to yourself? Are you know for someone who is a hard worker? Are you know for someone who is lazy and plays video games every chance you have?
Taking a stand doesn’t always require a ton of work, effort, or strategy. You don’t have to end world hunger, or heck, even start a blog. It doesn’t need to be this powerful moment where everyone in the room is watching you. It only requires willingness. Are you willing to have a conversation with someone new? Pick up the trash that is laying on the ground, invest in relationships, say please and thank you?
Find a need and fill it. Ask God to put something or someone on your heart. Do something different. Don’t get caught up in the daily routine of things you have to do, don’t forget about doing things you want to do. He will use whatever you are able to offer for the fester good.
We can do all things. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” In the text leading up the verse 13, Paul, the man who wrote the book of Philippians says, “I have learned to be content in any circumstance. I have experienced times of need and times of abundance. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of contentment” (Philippians 4:11-12) These verses explain that Paul was referring to being content when he followed with “I am able to do all things.” He’s saying, “I can handle the good. I can handle the bad. I can handle whatever the world can throw at me because my relationship with Jesus is rock solid. He’ll see me through the storms.
Taking a stand doesn’t always mean doing something radical. Sometimes God will use something you’re always done in a way that’s bigger than you can imagine. He’ll use something. Want to take a stand? Do the right thing. If you’re not sure what to do or whom to help, just do what is right. Uphold your standards. Stay tune to your faith. Be kind. Be compassionate. Be generous. Stand up for what you believe in.
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy. Winston Churchill said, “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
News flash: I’m nowhere near perfect. I try to be a good role model. I really do, I try every single day. I try to do the right things and think the right things but I don’t sometimes. It’s life. I’m human. I have failed over and over again. We screw up, so what? Don’t let that struggles take over your mind. We all need grace. And we all need Jesus. Place your eyes on Him. He is perfect. He is the one constant who is forever doing right, forever loving, forever faithful, and forever unchanging. We are flawed and limited but God is not.
Don’t let the knowledge that you are imperfect keep you from taking a stand. We talk at practice about giving everything you have in your tank every single day. Even if you’re at 70 percent. Give 100 percent of your 70 percent.
Are you willing to stand a stand?
